She served as Pres Clinton's appointee on the National Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board, with bi-partisan Senate approval, in the US from 94 to 99 - that was an independent executive branch of government that investigated all the effects of chemical accidents and how to prevent and mitigate against them.
Founding Director of the center for Environmental Oncology, first such center in the world established at the Pittsburg Cancer Institute - looking at the environmental factors that contribute to cancers.
In 2007 she founded, and is the President of, the non-profit Environmental Health Trust to provide basic research and education about environmental impact on health hazards.
She was also senior advisor to the Assistant Sec for Health in the Dept of Health and Human Services in the US and as such has counseled many leading officials in the US, UN, world bank, European Environmental Agency and the Pan-American Health Organization.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, A Master of Arts in Sociology, she has a PhD in Science from the University of Chicago and she has a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Unversity.
She has also more than 200 technical publications, 11 edited monograms, and 3 popular books.
She's been published in the Lancet and the Journal of the American Medical Assoc which are some of the top journals in the field of medical research and she of course has publications in Scientific America and the New York times.
